Water damage and mould
Insulation that has been wet holds moisture against the framing. Once it is compromised it stops insulating and starts causing problems.

What we do
Old, wet or contaminated material taken out and hauled away before anything new goes in.
What it is
Old insulation does not always need to come out, but when it does, leaving it in place is the most expensive shortcut on the job. Wet, mouldy, pest-damaged or fallen material keeps doing its damage under whatever is installed over it.
Removal is dirty, awkward work in tight attics and crawlspaces, and it is a large part of what we do. The space comes out clean, and the debris leaves with us.

Rodent-damaged insulation carries droppings and nesting material through the whole layer. It is removed, not covered over.
Fiberglass that has come loose from crawlspace joists or slumped inside a wall is no longer doing anything. The classic before-and-after crawlspace.
Foam bonds to the surface it is sprayed onto. Old material has to come out first so the new work can do its job.
Process
The same order every time, so you know what is happening in your house and when.
We confirm what is up there, why it failed, and whether all of it or only part of it needs to come out.
Access routes and living areas are protected before anything is disturbed, so the mess stays in the work area.
The material is vacuumed or removed by hand into sealed bags and carried out along the protected route.
The deck, joists or crawlspace floor are cleaned so the surface is ready for whatever goes in next.
The debris leaves with us. You are not left with bags of old insulation in the driveway.

FAQ
Not always. If it is dry, clean and simply too thin, new material can often be added over it. It has to come out when it is wet, mouldy, pest-damaged, fallen out of place, or when spray foam is going onto that surface.
Access routes and finished areas are covered before anything is disturbed, and the material is bagged or vacuumed at the source rather than carried loose through the house.
Yes. Hauling the debris off site is part of the job.
